Piešťany - luxurious health spa beside the Váh Nestlin in the lower region of the Váh river in western Slvakia is the wordlampos spa town of Piešťany. The town´s wonderful naatural riches include hot springs of healing thermal waters, which reach temperatures as high as 70 degrees Celsium, and enormus deposits of curative sulphur mud. Since time immemorial, the curative effects of these thermal springs and the sulphur- bearing mud have attracted people from far and wide, especially those suffering from rheumatic problems. Historians have established that sometime between the 11th and 12th centuries. The name Piešťany is derived from the latin "paskan" /sand/. Piešťany was first mentioned in the Charter of Zobor issued by Koloman I which dates from the year 1113. In the 16th century about two kilometers to the south af Old Piešťany opposite the thermal springs a spa hamlet of Teplice was founded. In this period news about curative effects of local springs began to spread to neibourind countries. In the 17th century a priest Adam Trajan wrote a latin ode saluberrimae Pistinienses Thermae. In the 18th century Piešťany and the local spa came under the rule the House of Erdodi.
